Targ Węglowy Open Space

City Culture Institue is back on Targ Węglowy. After months of discussions and debates with the citizens on what is should be used for, the Targ Węglowy will become again the space where one can sit on newly built city chairs, read, unwind or have some active fun. There will be sport accessories rental and a library connected with the cultural information point – open every day except for the big events.

Targ Węglowy Open Space will be avaliable on 28th June – 30th September except for 3-5.07, 7.07, 19.07 – 21.08, 5-9.09, 13.09, 20.09 – when the big events such as Jarmark Dominikański, Jarmark Wileński, Zlot Motocyklowy are booked.

The space design was created taking into account the hints and wished of the citizens by the Gdyby group – who are also responsible for the furniture design of the last year’s edition. This year, the Open Space includes playground area created from specially soft material; the isles of green for the relax; deckchairs and loungers for individuals. There also will be an extension for the rental facilities with sport equipment and books, together with cultural information point (open 12.00 AM – 10.00 PM). Targ Węglowy Open Space offers power points and free internet access.

– We hope that this newly designed space will meet the needs of our citizens and tourists and that Targ Węglowy will thrive every day of spring and summer. Thanks to the CCI having consult the citizens we now know how they want to spend their free time here, not just during the big events but everyday. The space that we prepared is aimed at variety of activities. We count on the citizens to contribute. I encourage everyone to come, visit and use our new Targ Węglowy. – says the president of Gdańsk, Paweł Adamowicz.

The leaflets avaliable at the Culural Information Point, the City Culture Institute and Targ Węglowy itself, as well as the website www.targweglowy.ikm.gda.pl and Facebook event http://on.fb.me/1lTVZc7 will keep you updated with what’s up on Targ Węglowy Open Space.

– We invite NGOs, informal initiatives and individuals to use Targ Węglowy’s space for their events. Do not hesitate to contact us at targweglowy@ikm.gda.pl. CCI will also work on the Targ, just as we did last year – the open air breakfast, workshops and movies. – says Aleksandra Szymańska, the director of the City Culture Institute.

CCI will help anyone who is willing to run their own event in the Open Space, especially with the event’s PR by posting information on www.targweglowy.pl and Facebook page.

The City Council of Gdańsk had issued the permission for the food trucks to stand on Targ Węglowy, so there will be coffee, lemonade, vegetarian and vegan snacks available.

The partners of Targ Węglowy Open Space are Zakład Utylizacyjny Sp. z o.o. and GIWK Sp. z o.o. The books avaliable at the rental space are the courtesy of Wojewódzka i Miejska Bibliotka Publiczna im. Josepha Conrada Korzeniowskiego in Gdańsk.
