We invite to our workshops!

We invite  the citizens of Gdańsk and everybody who feels that Targ Węglowy is an important place to participate in workshops on the future of the Square. 

During the next few months, workshops and meetings will take place. Along with the citizens, we will create ideas that can influence the decision on the place’s usage in the future. It is the continuation of conversations started in August 2013. They will take part in three groups: 21 January, 28 January, and 29 January.

The aim of the workshops is to define ideas on the usage of the Square and the discussion on the concepts already presented. The sociologists of the Unit for Social Innovation and Research ‚Stocznia’  and the professionals of the City Culture Institute will be in charge of the workshop sessions. The results of the work done by the citizens will be presented in March during a final expert panel.

Workshop schedule:

Group 1. – 23 January at 4 p.m.;

Group 2. – 28 January at 5 p.m. (young people);

Group 3. – 29 January at 5 p.m.;

All meetings will take place at the City Culture Institute at ul. Długi Targ 39/40, room 108. Please send the reservations for the workshops to the e-mail address: targweglowy@ikm.gda.pl or to the Culture Information office at the Institute.

Natalia Brylowska of the Culture Observatory run by the City Culture Institute says: ‚We really want the citizens to participate actively in the whole consultation process. For this reason, we have chosen workshops during which we want to define new ideas. This is an opportunity for the people who would like to change something in the city to take action. Maybe they already have some ideas on the forms of activity at Targ Węglowy. We particularly invite all of those who live and work in the close neighborhood of the Square and those who visited the place during the ‚Square Quarrel’ initiative. We want to recreate the energy we observed during summer and together create ideas for a citizen-friendly environment.’ 

Since the beginning of January, observations of people visiting the Square are taking place. The results on how people use the area will be a starting point for the workshops.

In February, a survey will be available in electronic and paper form. It will deal with suggested solutions for Targ Węglowy. The survey will be collected for three weeks. During the first weeks of March, during a final expert panel, we will summarize the whole consultation process and give the survey results.
