2. The Coal Market (Targ Węglowy) brought to life!

The City Culture Institute brings the Coal Market (Targ Węglowy) to life from this Monday, 28 August, to 4 September. Movable cubes are placed at the Coal Market (Targ Węglowy). Users may arrange them freely.  11 islands of real grass were installed where people may rest on deckchairs, read books or magazines, play badminton, boules, rope swing, draw their own vision of the Square, listen to music, use wireless Internet connection, have a meal or a coffee…

We are happy that the citizens and visitors are interested in our idea. More and more families come to the Square with children, people spend time reading, play ping-pong, badminton or boules (favorite game for the employees of the bank nearby during their lunch time).

Since Friday, Krytyka Polityczna newspaper will join the initiative of the City Culture Institute and Gazeta Wyborcza. Up to  4 September, they will run a City Reading Area of Krytyka Polityczna that would provide interesting books, magazines, board games, a ‚Drawing Area’, workshops dealing with drawing an open space of people’s dreams entitled ‚The Square is being drawn round the table’, and an initiative called ‚Little Coal is designing the city’ for children to develop creative actions within designing a city open spaces. What is more, from Friday to Sunday, they will organize an  open space movie theater: ‚Lost in Translation’, ‚Genova’, ‚Holy Motors’. On Saturday and Sunday since 11 a.m., Trójmiejska Solniczka and Anna Królikiewicz will offer delicious meals during meals on the grass. There will be also some physical activity — yoga and acro-yoga, badminton games, hula hoops, or boules. Saturday events will be transmitted live by an outdoor newsroom of the social media of Gdansk.
