The main aim we wanted to achieve for the people during the ‘launching’ of the Coal Market (Targ Węglowy) was to start a series of consultations concerning potential and expected usage of the Square and a social discussion on the city as a space designed for the people.
The City Culture Institute and the Unit for Social Innovation and Research ‘Stocznia’ have created a survey for the citizens. Results of the survey, which was carried out from August 26th to September 4th are available as interactive infographic on: http://infogr.am/Targ-o-w-90721987?src=web (only polish version).
What would you like to do on Targ Węglowy? What should be available there? What kinds of events should take place on Targ Węglowy? These are just few of the questions that are part of the advisory poll prepared by City Culture Institute as the result of the citizen workshops. The poll will be open from February 17th to March 6th, both on-line here and off-line in CCI, City Office, libraries and various facilities near Targ Węglowy and the Old Town.
We wanted to discuss not only the fact “how the Square should look like” but its functionality and what we, the citizens, need it for. How we can in fact create the public space as its users. We wanted to come back to the correct order of making administrative or infrastructural decisions so they would result from a series of public consultations and research, not a post factum discussion.
